Of all of the choices I made when constructing my kitchen this past year, the one which has created the most questions is my own pick of granite countertops. I really don't regret the choice one piece: marble is amazing, relatively cheap in comparison to other solid-surface countertops, and most importantly, simple to wash.

I've discovered marble simple to keep and simple to wash. Frankly, I feel somewhat silly showing you the way I wash my countertops; it is pretty damn easy.

Why Marble Is Scary:

But first, let's talk about all of the reasons people are fearful of marble. According to the scientists from the earth sciences section where my husband works, marble is a carbonate. (No not carbonite; that is exactly what they froze Han Solo in. Different item. Scarier.) Selecting stone countertops is a significant proposal when you've got a close relationship with geology college; they say things like,"Why do you put a CARBONATE on your kitchen?" Over beverages at the holiday celebration. However, I digress.

What causes Marble Etching

Granite is really more likely to marking due to its calcium carbonate cosmetics, which response with any acid. Acid literally eats a small bit of their surface, producing dull stains, also called etches. It follows that any dab of lemon juice and moist margarita glass will leave a subtle mark.

Next week I will share with you that my etches up close and personal; I do not think they are a major thing. But this easily marred surface could freak out people, particularly when they're only exploring options and have not really lived with marble nevertheless.

Can Be Marble Hard to Clean?

The etching problem also gives marble the reputation of being hard to wash. It's true, you do not wish to use some acidic and common all-natural cleansers such as peppermint and lemon juice. However, apart from that, marble is exactly as with other all-natural stones: lasting, easy-wearing, and actually simple to wash.

What We Are NOT Talking About Today

I am going to show you the basic, regular way I wash my countertops after ingestion. This is what I do if I wish to go somewhat deeper than a quick swipe with a sexy, wet washcloth.

I am not, but going to deal with ways I cope with other milder and more particular problems with marble, such as lifting light stains using a baking soda poultice, or mixing light etches so they're not as noticeable. 

But first, let us just talk fundamental cleaning. It is super easy. And in the event that you have marble, then I would be interested to hear from you about if you wash yours exactly the exact same manner, or when you use something different.

The Best Way To Clean Marble Countertops

Everything You Will Need

1. Gear 

2. Warm water

3. Gentle, non-abrasive dish soap

4. Spray bottle

5. Dish-cleaning or cloth rag

6. Soft, absorbent towel

Instructions:

1. Mix warm water and mild dish soap: Fill a spray bottle with warm water and then add about a tablespoon of soft, non-abrasive dish soap. Do not use anything with acid or lemon juice. Shake lightly to mix the water and soap.

2. Spray on the counter together with the dish soap alternative: Spray on the countertop gently together with the hot dish soap alternative.

3. Wipe having a sexy, wet dishcloth: Wipe the soapy water from the counter with a wet dishcloth.

4. Dry having an absorbent towel rub the countertop dry and buff using a soft, absorbent towel.
